The house at Church Road was designed by Bryan Thomas, the architect chosen by Beth Chatto for her 1960’s house at Elmstead Market. Our clients bought their house in 2017, knowing that it needed a new lease of life. The building was sensitively restored and gently re-worked into a fresh and comfortable home.
The existing garden was appealing, but had become tired and over grown. Our new design capitalised on the huge Essex skies beyond, by dispensing with the rear boundary. The intention was to create a framework echoing the mid-century architecture, overlaid with planting which seems to have blown in from across the fields.
